Willie's Way
Short, P.S.A., Black Story, 4', Documentary, 2019

These pieces represent the inaugural pots since Willie's stroke in 2007. There is a famous saying that “sometimes you must separate the Art from the Artist”. He disagrees.
These forms are not quite as perfect and the colors not as robust as he is accustomed to making. However, these pieces are functional, and like any artwork created, they represent a labor of love, toil, effort and especially in his case, resurgence.
After a life-altering stroke, Willie Leftwich uses pottery to create a symbol of hope for himself and other stroke survivors.
